Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) is a defect in the structure of the heart, valves, or blood vessels that is present at birth. There are many types of heart defects that affect the blood flow or the heart rhythm. Congenital heart defects are among the most common birth defects and are the leading cause of birth defect-related deaths.
As per research reports, CHD incidence rate is 8/1000 live births, of which nearly 180,000 children are born with CHD each year in India. Nearly 60,000 to 90,000 of these children suffer from critical CHD that requires early medical and/or surgical intervention. Due to lack of adequate health awareness and healthcare facilities, CHD not only contributes to infant mortality but also to the growing number of Adult Patients with congenital anomalies.
At Nanavati Super Speciality Hospital, we have advanced Heart Institute and state-of-the-art Pediatric Division dedicated to the care of children and adults suffering with heart defects and diseases.
