Rheumatology is largely a clinical speciality, requiring the help of the laboratory, X-rays, and at times other radio imaging modalities like CT and MRI (which the hospital possesses). Most rheumatic disorders are associated with pain and swelling of joints. At times various organs of the body may be affected.

Treating patients with early rheumatic diseases has significantly helped reduce patient suffering (improved quality of life) and patient mortality. The hospital periodically conducts CME programs on various aspects of rheumatology for family physicians of the neighbouring area.

The Rheumatology Department was started in November 1987. Patients with different kinds of rheumatic problems from various parts of Mumbai and outside Mumbai attend the OPD
