Dr. Balabhai Nanavati Hospital has its Maternity Ward functioning since 1951. Ward had 32 maternity beds. Labour room had 3 Birthing beds.Hospital had redesigned the ward & a new Obstetric department was started on 7th November 2005. Ward has bed strength of 16 catering to patients for I class & Higher II class category. Obstetric department caters to both Gynaec as well as Maternity patients.

Labour room is attached to the ward and has 3 Birthing beds with a baby bath area attached to it. Labour Room also has 2 Baby Warmers & a Resuscitation trolley. Hospital also has an attached well-equipped Pre- mature unit (PU) for the babies who are small & pre-mature.

The department has a Consultant from Breast Feeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI) who gives Ante-natal & Post-natal Counseling to maternity patients on an individual basis. We give personalized training on how to initiate & sustain breast-feeding. Also we organize Antenatal lectures for the expecting mothers & give help and support regarding breast-feeding problems. The programme will assist Dr. Balabhai Nanavati Hospital to get ‘Baby Friendly Certificate’ which is considered as gold standard for the help & support given by a maternity service to help mothers to breastfeed successfully.
