Dr. Balabhai Nanavati Hospital is the only hospital in India to have full fledged temporal bone laboratory for training E.N.T. surgeons from India, U.K. and other neighbouring countries. It is the only centre in the world to conduct temporal bone workshops 6 times per year.

Dr. Morwani and his team is regularly invited to conduct workshops on otology, skull-base surgery, otoneurology, phonosurgery, facial nerve surgery and vertigo surgery all over India.

Dr. Balabhai Nanavati Hospital has contributed pioneer work in every aspect of Skull Base surgery. Cases of Acoustic Neuroma, CP angle lesions, Vertigo surgeries pituitary tumors, CSF Rhinorrhoea are being operated in collaboration with Neurosurgical colleagues.

Full fledged and well equipped Rhinology and nasal endoscopy department is performing all routine and advanced nasal, orbital and intracranical surgeries with the help of endoscopes since last fifteen to twenty years. Surgeries for lesion of all sinuses, pituitary tumours, CSF rhinorhea, anterior skull-base tumour, and fungal lesions of same area operated.

The microdebrider used in ENT department is an equipment that helps to remove nasal polyps and growths more effectively with minimal bleeding and reduces hospitalization time and there is faster healing. This equipment helps to remove the lesion completely with minimal morbidity in form of damage to orbital contents and intracranial complications. This equipment is used along with nasal endoscope and microscope to further help in good visualization and complete clearance of disease.

As far as Phonosurgery department is concerned, Dr. Balabhai Nanavati Hospital is conducting regular workshops with the help of International and Host faculty since the last 7-8 years and during these workshops, video-conferencing is used to show live surgical procedures from abroad. Successful surgeries of laryngeal and tracheal stenosis, umilateral and bilateral vocal cord palsies are routinly done. CO2 and diode lasers are used to get better results with minimum hospitalization period in patients suffering from voice disorders and various benign and cancerous lesions in the head and neck region, specially early malignancies of oral cavity and larynx.

The Head and Neck department is supported by excellent Radiotherapy department. For advanced lesions the well trained plastic surgeons with wide experience of regional flaps and microvascular free flaps work in coordination with ENT Department.Speech Rehabilitation procedures following laryngectomy are performed at Speech Therapy and Audiology department of International standards.

All routine and advanced head and neck cancer patients are treated regularly at Nanavati Hospital. Skull-Base lesions like Angiofibroma, Glomus Jugulare, are referred in this institute regularly and to help manage these cases, Dr. Balabhai Nanavati Hospital has full fledged embolisation department.

Surgery for facial palsies of various origin are performed on regular basis in this hospital procedures like facial nerve deampression, re-routing and sutures, grafting and various facial reamination procedures like lid loading, slings operation are performed. Cases of discharging ear and conductive deafness undergone surgery 3-4 times prior without success are operated successfully in this centre. Workshops have been conducted in more than 20 centres including Apollo hospital- Hyderabad, Chennai, JIPMER (at pondicherry) and various Institutes all over India for facial nerve reanimation, vertigo surgery etc..

Surgery for snoring a common problem in obese people is routinely being performed in our department. A condition called obstructive sleep apnoea has been treated with a procedure assisted with laser called uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UVPP) where excessive tissue in the patients of oro-pharynx and nasopharnx is excised with the help of laser.
