The Dr. Balabhai Nanavati Hospital Hospital Audiology & Speech Therapy Centre specialises in the diagnosis of hearing and speech problems for infants, children and adults. The Centre has conducted critical research to establish normative data on the subject of "Behavioural Responses to Auditory Stimuli in New Born Infants", and has tested as many as 1251 newborn babies between 1976 and 1981, the largest sample studied in India.

The Audiology and Speech Therapy Centre was established in June 1971, and specialises in the diagnosis of hearing and speech problems of infants, children and adults. We have an esteemed team of specialists working with us.

Services Provided

The treatment conducted at the Centre includes the early diagnosis of deafness in infants (as early as 1 month after birth), the fitting of special aids to assist in hearing, and training for language and speech development.

Hearing tests for all age groups are also conducted here – These include Pure Tone Audiometry, Impedance Audiometry, and BERA tests. Oto-Acoustic Emission tests will be conducted in the near future.

COCHLEAR IMPLANT PROGRAM

The Centre provides hearing aid trials and fitting, including in-the-ear digital aids. Surgery for Cochlear Implants are being performed here. Our hospital has started Cochlear Implant Program with highly trained staff for surgery, switch – on, mapping post implant and subsequent rehabilitation program. Ms.Shabnam Khan – Audiologist has been trained aboard for mapping and implant care program. We have excellent pre – implant counseling service for parents, candidacy criteria is followed strictly while selecting cases for implant surgery. We are offering most economical hospitalization package in the city among the private hospitals.

Speech therapy for stuttering, articulation problems, loss of speech after stroke, delayed language and speech problems in children, language and speech training for hearing impaired children, are other treatments imparted by the Centre.

The Voice Training Centre features computerized assessment and post training evaluation, with Voice Analysis conducted on a computer. A Voice Culture Program is also conducted. Voice Training is deployed in cases where the larynx (voice box) has been removed due to cancer or other diseases.
