Telemedicine
is a facility by which patients at a remote village or hospital
can have direct communication with all the multi-specialty doctors
nationally as well as internationally via the T.V. / computer
screen. The patients can now consult with doctors at the hospital
without having to visit them personally. The medical fraternity
at Dr. Balabhai Nanavati Hospital can diagnose the disease by
examining patient by tele-stethoscope and other such high end
equipment as well as provide guidance for treatment at the remote
centres or at the Hospital.
The Indian Health Service is moving rapidly in deploying state-of-the-art
technology to bring primary care and specialty medicine to remote
locations to reduce geographic barriers between remote, smaller
communities and health care providers. For example, clinical engineers
are now equipping small remote villages in interior Maharashtra
and other surrounding areas with tele-medicine systems to provide
transmission of digital images of patients’ ear drums, skin
conditions, and even tonsils to distant health care providers.
Tele-medicine also enables small rural communities to communicate
during emergencies with hospital consultants through video conferencing
when transportation is difficult or impossible (especially in
the current road conditions & distances).
For decades, Dr. Balabhai Nanavati Hospital has been committed
to providing people in the community and throughout the state
and country with the best health care possible. And to this day,
Dr. Balabhai Nanavati Hospital expertise in family-centered patient
care, combined with research, education and the development of
